About me

I am an active composer, music teacher, and organizer of music events. I share an occasional Music as Meditation concert with listeners and fellow musicians and I organize several concerts of new music each year. I use this blog to tell people about my musical endeavors and as a home for my virtual busking basket. If you want to support my musical efforts financially, please look for the donate button on the right-hand side of this page. You can find pages about The Davis Hill Studio on this blog. Look for the orange links on the right-hand side of the page.

Usual Rates for Lessons

Teaching Philosophy: Here are a few sentences that might give you some insight into why I teach music. I love to share the culture of music practice with people of all ages. I hope my teaching offers students guidance as they chart their own course through the music of all ages and many genres. I try to help students find the music that helps each of them find unique musical expression.

Rates for Children and Teens

I charge a tuition rate based on the number of weeks in a term. Most students thrive with 45-minute lessons. My usual rate for those is $37.50. I schedule lessons over the weeks available, and then charge tuition based on two fewer weeks. That gives everybody some flexibility for canceling when life happens.  For example, tuition for a 12-week term is $375.

Each term, I ask student to pay a materials recital fee of $50.

I have some violins for rent. My rate for instrument rental is $15/month. I will also help violinists figure out how to purchase a violin that is right for them.

Teaching Rates PhilosophyI recognize that everybody's financial situation is different, so if these rates don't work for you, please talk to me. I teach because I want to, and although I need to make a living at it, I have found ways to make it work for a lot of people in different circumstances.

Rates for AdultsMy usual hourly rate is $50. Please read  the paragraph above about teaching rates philosophy. I love teaching adults!
